Bulk upload product images to PrestaShop and WooCommerce

Uploading photos one by one, listing by listing, then starting again on every store: it is often the longest part of building a catalogue. ListoMax sends all the images of your listings in one publication. With the Series feature, it takes less than 2 minutes to publish 12 complete listings, photos included.

The short answer

How do you upload multiple product images at once to PrestaShop and WooCommerce?

Drag all the photos into the listing, put them in order, tick your stores and publish. ListoMax uploads each image to each store through its official interface.

01 · BACK OFFICE

Uploading by hand

Image by image, product by product. With two stores, everything has to be done a second time. Reliable, but endless as soon as the catalogue grows.

02 · NATIVE IMPORT

The CMS file import

The images must already be hosted online, at a URL the store can read. Handy for large volumes, tricky to fix when a row fails.

03 · LISTOMAX

Uploading from your PC

The files go from your computer to the store, in full resolution, along with the listing. A status per product and per store shows whether everything arrived.

ListoMax is Windows software, not a module or a plugin. It publishes through the PrestaShop 1.7, 8 and 9 Webservice and the WooCommerce REST API. The images are not links to your hard drive: they are actually copied to the store. The details for each CMS are on the pages about how to bulk add products to PrestaShop and how to bulk add products to WooCommerce.

Step by step

How do you upload a product's images with ListoMax?

Add the files

Drag and drop your photos into the image area of the form, or select them the usual way. Several files at once, with thumbnails.

Choose the main image and the order

The first image carries a badge: it is the listing's cover. Reorder the thumbnails to change the cover or the gallery order.

Check the preview

The preview shows the gallery of clickable images exactly as it will be presented, next to the description and features.

Publish and track the upload

The progress bar shows each step, including the image upload. After publishing, ListoMax reads the listing back from the store and checks that the images were received.

Which image becomes the cover in PrestaShop?

The first one in your list. It becomes the product's cover image, and the order of the others is kept.

And the main image in WooCommerce?

Same rule. The files are uploaded to the WordPress Media Library: the first becomes the product image, the others form the gallery.

The limits

Which image formats and sizes are accepted?

JPG, PNG, WEBP and GIF, up to 8 MB per image, sent in full resolution.

PointWhat ListoMax does
Accepted formatsJPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF
Maximum file size8 MB per image
ResolutionFile sent in full resolution, no link to your hard drive
OrderFirst image as cover, gallery order kept
Arrival in PrestaShopProduct images, first one as cover
Arrival in WooCommerceWordPress Media Library, product image then gallery

Once the file is received, the store generates its own thumbnails according to its configuration, just as it does for an image added by hand. So you stay in control of how images display in your theme.

File import

How do you put multiple images in a CSV or Excel file?

In the images column, write several URLs in the same cell, separated by a vertical bar.

Example cell: https://example.com/img/black-bag-1.jpg|https://example.com/img/black-bag-2.jpg

Templates provided

A CSV template and an Excel template can be downloaded from the software, already filled in with an example. You can see straight away where to put the images.

Column checked

When the file is opened, recognised columns are shown in green and the first six rows appear in a table. You check before you start.

Numbered errors

A row that fails is listed with its number and reason. An option lets you continue the batch despite errors.

Starting from a supplier file? The guides to importing a CSV or Excel file into PrestaShop and importing WooCommerce products from a CSV detail the columns and format pitfalls. The full list of headers is in the CSV and Excel import section of the features page.

Troubleshooting

Why are my product images not importing?

In most cases, the connection key does not have permissions on images, or the file is too large.

PrestaShop key permissions

In the Webservice, the key must have read and write access to the images resource. Without it, the listing is created but the photos do not follow. See the help page on connecting PrestaShop.

A read-only WooCommerce key

The API key must be created with Read/Write permissions, linked to an administrator account. The guide is in the help page on connecting WooCommerce.

A file that is too large

Each image must stay under 8 MB, and your hosting must allow uploads of that size. Compress the heaviest photos, or convert them to WEBP.

An unreadable URL in the CSV

For an import, every image URL must open in a browser. Also check that the URLs are separated by a vertical bar, with no other character.

When an upload fails, ListoMax does not stay silent: a banner shows the product, the store and the reason. Once the problem is fixed, one button retries that product, another retries all failed products. Other common cases are covered in the common problems section of the help page.

Save time

How do you reuse the same images for a whole series of products?

With the Series feature: the base product's images are reused by every listing in the series.

You fill in a single listing, photos included, then enter the values that change: colour, size, material. ListoMax builds a complete listing for each value, each with its own reference and URL. You can save the series locally, review each listing and correct it before publishing. The whole method is on the page about how to bulk create product listings.

Less than 2 minutes for 12 listings. With the Series feature, publishing 12 complete product listings, images included, takes less than 2 minutes (publisher's measurement). Entering and uploading the same thing by hand in a back office takes far longer.

Two more shortcuts: the duplicate button copies an existing listing with its images, and the original files stay on your computer so you can republish without hunting for them. Running several stores? The same images go to each one in a single publication, as explained in publishing products to multiple stores. For products with variants in a single listing, see also PrestaShop combinations in bulk, WooCommerce variations in bulk and translating listings into 8 languages.
